Siya Kolisi and wife, Rachel Kolisi, reasons for divorce

Siya Kolisi, a two-time World Cup winner, and his wife, Rachel, have announced their divorce.

The South African power couple, who had become a symbol of unity, married in March 2016 and are now separating eight years later.

They have two children together, Nicholas and Keziah, and have openly said that they plan to be loving co-parents.

DID SIYA SLIP UP?
Kolisi, a former Stormer player, experienced family life in Cape Town before joining the Sharks in Durban. Following that, he signed with French side Racing 92, but Rachel and the kids remained in the Mother City, only visiting during school breaks.

Separation may have caused the fissures, but there is a hint of the Springbok scandal in the air.

In 2019, three years into their marriage, the Springbok captain made news for allegedly messaging Cape Town model Marike Botha. According to TshisaLIVE, Mrs Kolisi openly defended her husband for persuading Botha to hire bodyguards in response to the internet abuse.

However, no proof was ever distributed, therefore jumping to conclusions would be foolish.

FULL STATEMENT
The couple announced the news on Instagram: “We wanted to share some important news with you.” After considerable thought and honest discussion, we have chosen to end our marriage. This decision is based on love, respect, and an understanding that this is the best road forward for both of us.

“While our relationship as a couple is evolving, we are still excellent friends and committed partners in raising our children with the same love and care they have always known. We will also continue to work together on the Foundation, which is very important to us.

“We appreciate your love, understanding, and support, and we respectfully request that you show us respect while we go through this transition.

“With thanks and love,

“Siya and Rachel.”

Kolisi will focus on preparing for the Springboks’ November tour, which includes matches against Scotland, England, and Wales.

Rassie Erasmus will be hoping to complete a perfect sweep of their Northern Hemisphere rivals in 2024, with 11 wins from 13.
